Plant Operation

People interested in pursuing a career as a plant operator in the Agricultural and Construction industry are motivated to work hard, sometimes away from home, and become valuable members of the workforce.

The Plant Operator Apprenticeship sets out to produce plant operators trained to operate a specific range of machines. During their training at the centre, apprentices gain a good understanding of the activities, techniques and procedures relating to plant operations. This includes training in servicing, basic maintenance, levelling and setting out.

Skills and personal qualities

Successful apprentices must achieve competence in the following:

  • Functional Skills Mathematics, English, Communication
  • An Induction Programme
  • Practical Training 180 Digger Loader, 360 Excavator below 10t, Forward Tipping Dumper, Telescopic Handler
  • Competence based Qualification (NVQ)

Skills gained

The apprentice will gain qualifications/certification in:

  • Level 2 NVQ Diploma (NVQ) in Plant Operations (Construction)
  • Level 2 Certificate in Plant Operations
  • Construction Plant Competence Scheme
  • (CPCS) Red Trained Operators Card
  • Level 1 Functional Skills
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities
  • Abrasive Wheels

YTS assessment team will track apprentices on site for the first category of plant as selected by the employer for conversion to the NVQ Diploma and the full CPCS Competence Card.
